Default Chase Sapphire Preferred vs Citi Thank You Premier

Hi need some advise for this: I will be using the credit card mainly for purchasing travel. So between the Sapphire Preferred and the Citi Thank You Premier, after the initial bonuses which is the better card to keep.

Also are there better cards cards for the long term of travel?

If i close my credit card in 4 months of use how will it affect my credit score, how about a year?

Well let's see here are a few things to consider:

Annual Fee: $95 for the Sapphire Preferred and $125 for the Citi Thank You Premier.
Regular Spending: 1 point per dollar on both credit cards
Category Spending: 1.2 points on gas/drugstores/groceries for Thank You Premier. None for Sapphire Preferred.
Travel Spending: 1 point per mile flown with Thank You Premier and 2 points per dollar with Sapphire Preferred thru their online travel website.

As you can see in my signature, you know which one I chose but I think it largely depends on your personal preference on spending. As a rule of thumb, if you spend a lot on airfare the Thank You Premier will be a better choice probably since you are awarded 1 point per mile of your flight which obviously adds up very fast. You can find out more in the CCF reviews here:

    Citi Thank You Premier review
Chase Sapphire review (compares both versions side by side)
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

    Current Cards:
American Express: Blue Cash, Simply Cash Bank of America: WorldPoints Platinum Plus Chase: Amazon, British Airways, Cash Plus Rewards, Freedom, Ink Cash Citi: Thank You Premier, Dividend Platinum Select Discover: More
Primary Everyday Card: American Express Blue Cash
Primary Travel Card: Citi Thank You Premier

As far as I'm aware the Citibank Thank You Premier card comes with a fee cost 125.00 fee, waived the first year.W ith this card you 1.2 points per dollar spent on gas and I think restaurants, 1 free airline companion ticket anywhere in the US every year, you also get concierge service.

So let's say your father wants to take out his whole family to a very crowded restaurant, when he gets the booklet there will be a number to call for concierge service. They would make reservations for him. They get sporting event tickets etc.

With the Chase Sapphire basic you get 2 points per dollar spent on restaurants, the preferred I'm not familiar with. However I do know you get the first year free then a 95.00 annual fee

Does your father travel on business?

It's the same, they're both the same difficulty level. Because it's your father either card would be easy for him to get.

Personally I would go into the branches. After my fight with Chase leaving me with just a Discover card, I went into Capital One's branch and they were no help, I eventualy got them to send me a short application so I filled it out.

Everybody does things differently. For example I like to go shopping at malls, look around, some people like to shop online.

When making vacation plans I would rather sit down with a travel agent and talk to them, get brochures. Some people would rather go onto Expedia, Travelocity or Orbitz.

Everybody is different. If it were me and I was looking for a bank credit card like Chase or Citi, I would go into the bank and do it through them.
