Maybe there is a tread somewhere already, but I did not want to go through 15 pages.
We have 2 credit cards: AMEX Blue and Costco Executive. Only last week AMEX sent us an Email saying that they now also have the Blue Preferred card and the Blue Cash Everyday one. The Blue Cash Preferred looks nice with the 6% at supermarkets/grocery stores. I sent them a message asking whether Walmart and Costco are considered supermarkets. The answer was YES. When I called to change from Blue Cash to Preferred I was told that these 2 companies are NOT considered supermarkets. Not even the Safeways, Albertsons, etc. Since the local individual supermarkets are usually way more expensive than the Walmarts and Costcos, the 6% does not mean much. We decided against it.
We have the Costco Executive card giving you 3% at restaurants, 2% for travel, 2% at Costco (plus the 1% from AMEX, making it 3%), 3% at gas stations and 1% the rest. The other card is the AMEX Blue Cash, giving you 5% at gas stations. Only catch here is that this does not kick in until you have accumulated $6,500.
AMEX is vague about the term "supermarkets".
