Default Fred Meyer credit card review anyone? Rewards any good?

With gas prices as high as they are I grabbed a Fred Meyer credit card application today before I left the store. It's a Mastercard and the rewards program looks to be a good. 2 points at Fred Meyer stores. 5 cent per gallon discount at their gas stations. 1 point on everything else. This is the page for it. Give me your 2 cents on it before I bring back my application.

I would say this is a pretty decent card if you shop there a lot, and especially if you don't have good enough credit to qualify for better cards, but the gas rewards aren't all that great.

If you want a better option, with those same benefits plus much more, I'd get the Fidelty AmEx Rewards card. You get 2% cashback on EVERYTHING. The only catch is that you must have an account with Fidelity, but you can just open a "mySmart Cash Account" which is essentially just a checking/savings account.

If you want maximum gas rewards, go with the PenFed Visa Platinum Cashback Rewards Card, with 5% cashback on all gas purchases. There is $20 one-time membership fee to join CU

Now it's not even a $20 donation to join. I see a new option on the website for only $15. As long as Penfed keeps the 5% going it is an great deal.

For the fuel discount, be aware you still have to spend $100 at Fred Meyer, and you only get one discount per $100, so be sure and fill up. Also the amount is misleading, it is an additional 5 cents after the normal 10 cent discount you would normally get with their regular rewards card. Since you shop there already, I assume you already have the free rewards card. Will the extra 5 cents at the pump and double points inside Fred Meyer actually be worth it?
