Default No 2x Points on Wholesale Gas on AmEx PR Gold

Just an FYI I was looking at my paper statements today and noticed a lack of bonus points on last months statement. I looked back at the few months before that and all bonus points were there. I called AmEx to inquire as to why I only had 27 bonus points versus a couple hundred and they told me since I do all my gas shopping at Costco that doesn't apply to the 2x for gas. So unfortunately February and March (Costco gas just opened in my area) I didn't earn bonus points. I love Costco but will be going back to a Gulf or Sunoco in my area to earn the bonus points. Just someting to keep in mind if you have a PR Gold but I am not sure how this applies to AmEx Blue Cash/Costco TE or even Discover or Chase (at say a BJs Gas Pump) when they offer 5% on gas.

I don't know what prompted me to open my paper statement but I am glad I did. My first Costco TE statement isn't until April 8 so I am curious to see if the 3% will apply to Costco gas purchases.

Yeah unfortunately wholesale store gas stations like Costco and Sam's Club do not count for high reward categories on any credit card that I know of. They all have exemptions for warehouse stores. Not even the Costco Amex gives the 3% at their own gas stations.

The Costco station in my area isn't priced all that competitively anyway and considering the long lines that are often there, I find that with the credit card rebate not only do I pay less at other stations but I also save time.

I thought the card from Costco at least gave the 3% at their stations. Why not? I feel that is misleading on Costco's part to have a card and advertise 3% on gas but then turn around and not give at their own stations for crying out loud.

I could have been wrong in my last post. I recently heard from a friend's mom that her Costco cards DOES give 3% on Costco gas. Though others have posted on here saying otherwise.

My statement just posted for my Costco Amex and it does indeed give 3% cash back on Costco gas purchases.

Why does American Express give the higher point value for the TrueEarnings on gasoline but not their other cards? To me that is not operating in a transparent manner and confuses cardholders.
