Default Union Plus Mastercard rewards too good to be true?

The rewards and discounts on the Union Plus Mastercard are super generous. Has anyone here seen this?

    Education Purchase Rebates
    $200 spent = $50 rebate
    $500 = $125
    $1000 = $250

    Are these offers for real?

I am not familiar with the Union Plus MasterCard but I am skeptical. It appears many of the "discounts" require you to buy their their partnered merchants. Like this:

Participants in the Union Plus Home Heating Oil Program can receive a $100 rebate when purchasing a new, energy-efficient heating system.

Then at the bottom it says Call HEAT USA, the provider of the Union Plus Home Heating Oil discounts.

I think it would be more accurate to advertise this as a HEAT USA discount instead of a general home heating oil discount. In conclusion this program doesn't appear to be much different than most of the credit card malls that most banks offer.
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

    Current Cards:
American Express: Blue Cash, Simply Cash Bank of America: WorldPoints Platinum Plus Chase: Amazon, British Airways, Cash Plus Rewards, Freedom, Ink Cash Citi: Thank You Premier, Dividend Platinum Select Discover: More
Primary Everyday Card: American Express Blue Cash
Primary Travel Card: Citi Thank You Premier

I am in a union myself and received a solicitation for the Union Plus Mastercard earlier this year. The selection of discounts do look useful but that is exactly what they are. I wouldn't call them credit card rewards because it is almost more of a discount card program than anything else.
