    Thumbs up Ultimate Rewards Guide

I'd like to see a guide of how you guys get the most from your various rewards cards, etc. I know just from reading on here a lot of you (Mogul of Pineapples, Jeffysdad, and others) are masterminds of the system.. I think it would be an interesting contribution.

Thanks, I feel honored to be considered a mastermind.

The first step would probably be to find a good credit card that offers higher than 1% on general purchases. There are many cards that give 3% to 5% on categories but you are not maximizing the full potential with them, if just 1% or less is being earned on everything else.

    Current Cards:
American Express: Blue Cash, Simply Cash Bank of America: WorldPoints Platinum Plus Chase: Amazon, British Airways, Cash Plus Rewards, Freedom, Ink Cash Citi: Thank You Premier, Dividend Platinum Select Discover: More
Primary Everyday Card: American Express Blue Cash
Primary Travel Card: Citi Thank You Premier

I was doing a combo - multiple cards for rotating categories, gas, restaurants, etc. However, the absolute best for me would be the Fidelity Amex - 2% on everything all the time. I don't currently have one. In my calculations, I'd earn more using that one card 100% of the time.

You do have to consider your own needs. What works best for me may not necessarily work best for someone else with different shopping priorities, e.g. if one tank of gas lasts you a month, you're not as concerned about a card that gives great gas rewards, but not much else.

Fidelity Amex for 2% (WorldPoints converted to cash deposit to Fidelity acct.) on everything, except...
Citi Forward for 5 Thank You points on restaurants, except...
During the fourth quarter when Chase Freedom pays 5% in Ultimate Rewards on restaurants. (First quarter it pays 5% on groceries.)
Chase Amazon for Amazon.com purchases 3% with redemption in $25 increments for gift certificate.

This gives you at least 2% on everything, lets you access 5% on categories when available and gives you access to the three major non-Amex points malls -- Worldpoints (BofA), Ultimate Rewards (Chase) and ThankYou (Citi).
    CARDS (and why)
FIA Card Services: Fidelity Amex (best cash back excepting 5% cards), Fidelity Visa (spare)
Chase: Freedom (only for 5% reward categories, purchases under $10), Sapphire (not in use), Amazon Rewards (for Amazon purchases only)
CapitalOne: No Hassle Rewards (no foreign transaction fee, my only MasterCard, not in use)
Amex: Blue Cash Everyday (not in use)
Discover: More (only for 5% reward categories)

I was looking into the conversion for fidelity and you have to spend $6,000 plus to get $100.. I'm assuming its your primary card?

Fidelity Amex is my main card. The award is 2% on everything with no tier and no cap. Redemptions begin when $50 has been accrued or 5000 points, which is $2,500 in spending.

Your Citi Forward card will get you 5% back at Amazon since it is considered a bookstore.
