Lightbulb Chase Freedom 3x points promo for travel

I have the Chase Freedom card and I got a notice in the mail saying I'll get an extra 3% on travel - airfare, hotel, car rentals from August 15 through October 9th. Normally you can still get 3% on travel if it is one of the three categories you spend the most on that month. But I guess this is in addition to that because it says it won't count against your three 3% categories.

"You'll continue to earn triple points or 3% cash back at the top three everyday places where you spend the most each month."

It says you can get up to 10,000 bonus points ($100) with this promo and it won't count against your annual earnings cap.

Just wanted to let everyone that has the Chase Freedom know about this.

Default Rewards change on Chase Freedom

The Chase Freedom is a popular credit card which previously gave 3% cashback on whatever 3 categories you spent the most on.

Recently they have scaled back there reward to only give 1% on most purchases and you will only receive a 3% reward on whatever promotional categories they are pushing at the time.

When Chase cut back cashback on their Cash Plus Rewards card years back I stopped using it. I'd recommend you do the same with the Chase Freedom. The new rewards structure is no longer lucrative.
