    Default Visa credit card points

Are Visa credit card points a better value than Mastercard points?

Rewards programs and points are all determined by the card issuer -- not the payment network, which is what Visa and MasterCard are. Check with the bank/institution issuing the card to evaluate its rewards program(s).

I like my Sapphire Visa credit card points program. It allows transfer of points to some frequent flyer programs without dilution.

For Mastercards I have had a couple but was disappoint with the points program through Citibank. I am no expert on CCs but it does seem like there are more good Visa cards for rewards than there are Mastercards.

Do not, I repeat do not, select a credit card on it being a Mastercard or Visa credit card. Both have comparable acceptance rates hence meaning there are no advantages of choosing one over the other. The precise value of Mastercard and Visa credit card points vary immensely among Bank of America, Citi, Chase and so forth. Each card must be evaluated on an individual basis disregarding its payment network association.

Default MasterCard or Visa credit card points are irrelevant

As echoed above MasterCard and Visa credit card points are determined by the issuing bank. A card's association with Visa or MasterCard has no bearing on the rewards.

My recommendation would be to research both Visa and MasterCard and choose the one best for you, regardless of what it is. These credit card reviews will be a good starting point.

    All the best,
