    Default Chase Freedom changes...

I knew this was going to happen eventually but still I'm disappointed. Letter from Chase today says without a doubt that 3% back in top three categories is over and all I'll get is the 5% back in rotating categories subject to cap and 1% on everything else, plus 10% more rewards as bonus for being a checking customer. No more $50 bonus for cashing in $200 worth of rewards. This is a much less attractive deal in my opinion.

That card has had the 5% rotating categories program for quite some time. Why is Chase only getting around to changing the older accounts now?

I thought you might have a chance of keeping the 3% in top 3 categories since there was no word of Chase changing it up until now. That is really too bad. The 25% bonus (+$50 on $200) wasn't offered on my Cash Plus card. Did that only apply to the 3/3 Freedom program?

I liked the consistency of the 3/3 version where you would know your rewards would be more or less the same all year long. With the quarterly program I find myself juggling cards when the categories switch. Still worthwhile but takes more work.

Make sure you pay attention the the $1,500 quarter cap on the 5% categories on the current version of the program.
Disclosure: I am a moderator/paid staff of this site, which does have advertising relationships with some credit cards that are discussed. Regardless, anything I say is my honest opinion.

    Current Cards:
American Express: Blue Cash, Simply Cash Bank of America: WorldPoints Platinum Plus Chase: Amazon, British Airways, Cash Plus Rewards, Freedom, Ink Cash Citi: Thank You Premier, Dividend Platinum Select Discover: More
Primary Everyday Card: American Express Blue Cash
Primary Travel Card: Citi Thank You Premier

That is correct. A pity it is capped now.
