Right now I'm looking into getting a credit card specifically for gas, but is it more beneficial to get a gas card like a Shell card or something, or is it better to get a Rewards card? My friend has a NC Lifespring Rewards card and she likes it alot...does anyone else have this card? Just wanted to get some opinions on gas cards that reallly help!

I haven't heard of that one you mentioned but I'd stay away from the cards that you can only use at one station like Shell or Chevron. I think gas credit cards are pointless unless you get one you can use anywhere. I got the one on here that's on the homepage from Amex that one has done good for me.

Yeah I use to have the BP gas credit card and I would find myself driving out of the way just to find a BP station to get gas. Totally pointless because with these gas prices now if you drive an extra half mile or more for gas it's going to take away the money you would save with the card.
The funniest thing I think is people that just drive to go fill up the tank. As a kid my mom would drive into town to fill up her car for only that reason. Doesn't make much sense to use extra gas just to buy extra gas!!

Thanks for the help guys. I've actually heard alot about the Amex card so I'm definately going to look into that more. The card I was talkin about is from the National City bank the Lifespring Health Rewards Visa. The thing that I've heard about that card is that the percentage on cash back doesnt change after a few months or whatever. Definately have to look into both.

What I do is use the Discover Open Road to buy gas gift cards at Marathon. Marathon will sell you $50 gas cards for $48. That alone is 4%. THen when I buy them with my Discover I get another 5% off so that works out to be 8.8% off on all gas at Marathon.
That means gas at $4.25 is actually only $3.88 |
