This Chase Freedom Card review will expose the secrets to maximizing your rewards. I’ve had the Chase Freedom for years and know all the tips and tricks.

Over the years many rewards credit cards have come and gone, but the Chase Freedom card has continued to be a smash hit. Why? Simply put, their rewards program just can’t be beat.

But then in 2010, they beat their own rewards program; raising the cash back from 3% all the way up to 5% on certain categories! Here’s how it currently works…

You get 5% cash back in categories which rotate every quarter. From July 1st thru Sept 30th 2010, you can sign up to get 5% in these categories:
  • Gas
  • Airlines
  • Auto Rentals
  • Hotels
The perfect categories for the season!

Usually when a credit card offers higher cash back in certain categories, they only give you a measly half-percent on regular spending (I call that practice giving with one hand, taking with the other). However the Chase Freedom card doesn’t do that – they are completely fair and give you a full 1% cash back on your other purchases!

How much money will Chase Freedom save you?
Unlike other rewards credit cards, you don’t have to be a big spender to earn big rewards. This is because the 5% cash back along with the 1% on everything else adds up fast!

For 2010 here’s the cash back schedule:
  • Jan thru March: Education, Childcare, Dining, Utilities
  • April thru June: Home Improvement, Home Furnishings, Lawn and Garden, Drugstores
  • July thru Sept: Airlines, Hotels, Gas, Auto Rentals
  • Oct thru Dec: Department Stores, Grocery Stores, Movies
Here are some tips of how to maximize your rebate:

Let’s say you take up a do-it-yourself remodeling project…
…and the 5% categories on your Chase Freedom card were home improvement, home furnishings, and lawn & garden. Just think how big of a cash rebate you would earn!

Let’s say your kid is in school…
…and one of the 5% cash back categories that quarter was education. Nowadays most schools accept Visa and MasterCard payments for tuition. If that was classified as an eligible “education” purchase on your Chase Freedom credit card, that could snag you a nice rebate!

Let’s say your family goes on vacation…
…and the 5% categories that quarter were gas, airlines, hotels, and auto. With the typical vacation, you will be making credit card purchases in most of these categories, if not all of them. Wouldn’t it be great to get 5% cash back on that spending?

Let’s say you're Christmas shopping…
…and one of Chase Freedom card's 5% cash back categories is department stores (as it will be this Oct thru Dec!). Yes, it is better to give than to receive... but what's best is to give and then receive 5% cash back on those gifts!

Verdict?
The Chase Freedom rewards were already amazing before, but now that they’ve revamped the program to offer 5% cash back, it’s undoubtedly the top cash back credit card on the market. Then when you take into account the fact that the Chase Freedom card has no annual fee, it really is a no-brainer.
