Signed up for Amex Business Card - No Sign-up Bonus Reward Points

Postby Hate AMEX Bait & Switch » Thu May 22, 2014 10:21 am

Signed for American Express Business Credit Card - NEVER AWARDED 25,000 American Express Rewards Points - Dishonest Bait & Switch Scam!!!

We were starting a new company and I was vetting several business reward credit cards. I was being targeted with ads for the American Express Business Cards with a promotion for 25,000 points if I met the spending limits.

I thought this was a great deal so I chose this card and quickly met the qualifying spending limit to earn the points. When I didn't see the points accrue I inquired as to why and after some discussion they told me I didn't have a promotion associated with my account. After a long drawn out discussion they assured me that I would qualify and would see the points accrue in 6-8 weeks.

Called today and the gentleman on the phone and his supervisor told me that I had been given "misleading information" by and AMEX rep and would not be awarded promotional points. When I asked if this is common practice to tell a customer who spends $40,000 + a month that they can change the rules on a whim he replied that there was nothing he could do.

I do not have the time to invest in arguing about this as I've already wasted 3-4 hours over the course of several phone calls so my advice everyone is STAY FAR AWAY from this American Express Business Card Bait and Switch Scam. :(

Did the customer service rep elaborate on why you would not be awarded the bonus points? Do you currently hold any other Amex cards? That may be why; I know many of their offers are targeted for only totally new card members. Even if you were new to that particular business product, if you hold another Amex personal card that may disqualify you. I don't agree with it either... I have signed up for many Chase cards and have always been awarded the advertised bonus points.

I understand what you're saying but I would be upset also. Although I wouldn't be if I found out I wasn't eligible because of some fine print. It sounds like one of the reasons he chose this card is because of the somewhat large signup bonus.

Really, other than it's name, what does AmEx have going for it any more for the average person? They may not have the "prestige" that AmEx has (had?), but Discover is making a new name for itself. (IMO anyway)

I use AmEx products because they're specifically useful to me -- not for the AmEx name or prestige. There are certainly many who think that name and prestige matter but that's their call to make.

I can understand the frustration but this is overreacting. Scam requires intent. This sounds more like a mistake or ineptitude.

Yep - the new Cap One in terms of limits if you have good credit and don't carry a balance. Granted the reps with Discover are a whole world of difference from Cap One, but otherwise in my experience it's appropriate.

I don't think it's overreacting. If he was promised the 25k points he should get it. Amex believe me would not like it much if you promised to pay them and didn't. I speak from experience here. I'd be hacked off too.

I think we're missing facts. My guess is that he didn't qualify for the offer.
