How to get 6% on everything

Postby freyj6 » Tue Apr 29, 2014 5:04 pm

I know some people do better than this with elaborate manufactured spending schemes, but this is a pretty easy way to get 6% on everything.

1. You need the Arrival and their shopping portal.

2. There is a 4 points-per-dollar bonus on AMEX gift cards.

3. Sign in to the AMEX site after you go through the portal so you have the option to buy $1000 and $3000 cards.

4. Buy with the Arrival.

You'll pay an extra $13 in shipping/service fees, but you'll earn ~$200 in points from a $3000 gift card (4pts per dollar + Arrival's 2.0 base + 10% miles back). After fees, it's a little over 6% back.

Cheers

Not sure I follow your math, please correct me if I'm wrong but when I use the Arrival mall the points per dollar is the total of points you get including the base x2. Therefore the math would be (4pts per dollar + 10% points back) isn't it?

You get the base 2% on the Arrival and an additional 4% on the gift cards (although this offer isn't always up, this is the second time I've seen it since February). So it's a base 6%, then you get 10% of that back when you redeem, so 6.6%. With the shipping fee included, it's more like 6%.

Cheers

You're only cheating yourself. Your points are worth much less than the 6% cash back.

Depends on where and how you use your points. Chase UR points, for instance, transferred to the right airline/hotel and used for the right booking can be worth well over a simple 6% cash back. Especially if you have a card that'll give you bonus points for category spending.

I was checking my recent purchases through the rewards mall and the total points back that I got was what was showing at the rewards mall offer, not the offer plus the base 2%, so I'm not sure how is it that you're getting 4% + 2% when getting amex gift cards (currently showing a 4% offer).

And he specified Hyatt. Again, hes losing out. But if he likes getting less, thats fine.
