AMEX Amazon offer

Postby OSBRanger » Fri Apr 18, 2014 11:35 pm

I have 3 months to spend $1000 to get my free Amazon prime account. My CL is $1k...

I have to make some fairly large purchases that total to about $970. I have the money to pay it in full.

My question is if I make all the charges it would show 97% utilization for this upcoming billing cycle. If I make the charges and pay it down to where my balance was only $100 (10% utilization) at the closing date, will I still be able to get my Amazon prime account?

Does one month of high utilization hurt you?

You should be able to spend the 970, pay it off as soon as it shows up online, and then pay it off in full instantly even before the billing cycle ends, thus showing 0% utilization.
Whats's in the wallet: Discover It - $3,800 (5% rotating, ShopDiscover), Sallie Mae Rewards MC - $1,000 (5% on gas, groceries, and Amazon), Chase Freedom Visa - $1,200 (5% rotating + 10% extra w/ Chase Total Checking), PayPal Extras MC (1.66% on PayPal, 2.5% on Restaurants- $3,000, Bank of America Cash Rewards Visa Signature - $5,000 (Signature benefits), PNC CashBuilder Visa - $1,000 (Don't use), Fidelity Investment Rewards Amex - $5,000 (2% on everything)

. . . and some store credit/charge cards.

Future cards:

-US Bank Cash+ (for the 5% categories)
-1-2 0% APR cards for some big purchases I'll be making within the year

Ok thats what ill do to show less utilization.

Will that $970 still count toward my promotion of spending 1000 in the first 3 months?

Yes. you could put $1,000 on it tomorrow morning and pay it off the minute it posts and you would still be good to go.

All spending will be counted no matter how you pay.

While it is true the items you listed won't count, I don't put those in the "spending" category but the "fees" category. All spending does count.
