Retention bonuses for Barclaycard's

Postby freyj6 » Wed Mar 05, 2014 5:59 pm

Anyone have experience with retention bonuses with Barclaycard? I got the Arrival a few months ago and I'm trying to decide between that and CSP. I know it's almost impossible to get retention offers for CSP, but is there any chance with the Arrival?

PS- also couldn't find any info on BCP. Anyone get retention offers for that one?

Thanks!

Isn't this card barely over a year old? Hard to find data points if it is a relatively new card

Almost word for word what people on Flyer Talk and TPG recently said about this card. I plan to try and PC or close once my first year is up as I've had difficulty in getting my travel purchases coded as travel and only being able to redeem in increments in $25 is frustrating.
Citi Forward ($10.1K), AmEx Blue Cash Everyday ($30K), Chase Freedom ($12.4K), Discover it ($5.5K), Barclaycard Arrival ($12.5K), L.L. Bean Visa ($5K). FICO 806 (TU), 812 (EQ), 806 (EX).

I heard you can only redeem on a transaction only once and within a 90 day window. The 2.2 return is great but I guess they won't give it too easily :-)

It's $25 increments but you can still redeem for the full amount. Yesterday I redeemed 21800 miles for a $218 flight.

I guess it is a new card so we don't know -- although it's encouraging seeing the bonuses Barclaycard's offers for some of their airlines cards. I still think it's one of the best general spending cards out there, fee or not.

What about BCP? Any experiences?

I'm just curious, what kind of retention bonuses have you heard of on other cards? I've only heard about maybe a few bonus points or they'll waive the annual fee, which doesn't seem like much of a bonus to me...

Amex BCE: 3% grocery, 2% gas
Bank of America Better Balance Rewards MC: $25/quarter bonus
Barclaycard Rewards Visa Signature: 2% gas, groceries, utilities
Capital One Quicksilver Visa Signature: 1.5% everything
Chase Freedom Visa Signature: 5% rotating
Citi Forward Visa: 5% restaurants/fastfood, movie theaters, amazon.com
Discover It: 5% rotating
SallieMae MC: 5% Groceries, Gas, Amazon
US Bank Cash+ Visa Signature: 5% electronic stores, restaurants
Sock Drawered: Chase Sapphire, Chase Amazon

Free is free and that's a bonus for me.

Just a lot of $89 annual fee wavers. Unless you're really good with transfer partners on other cards, ~2.3% back with no annual fee is hard to beat.
