Which tropical area to visit?

Postby paparoach429 » Fri Nov 22, 2013 3:55 am

So I forgot that my Citi Forward Thank You points expire in 2 years and it is about to be up. I figured I might as well use them on a get a way in the summer. My places of interest are Puerto Rico, Bermuda, and Key West. Has anybody ever been to these places? Im interested in hearing some feedback.

I've only been to St. Thomas, Turks and Caicos and Nassau (don't recommend)

Take a cruise. I know one of the islands is Key West and I think a stop in Mexico.

Was planning Puerto Rico (San Juan and Vieques) right when Chase Freedom devalued its points in June, and I thought my letter had said July. :o) The munchkins are getting old enough to be left with Grandma for an extended vacation, so we might be revisiting the idea in the near future.

Bioluminescent bays, the Bacardi Rum Distillery, and El Morro were some of the high points we were wanting to fit in. If canoeing through glowing water isn't your deal (or if the moon is too close to full), the Camuy Caves would be an interesting alternative. El Yunque also looked interesting, although it didn't make the final cut of our itinerary. If you're into package or guided tours, I do understand that Louie's VIP Tours is very well-reviewed on TripAdvisor, and does the Fajardo Bioluminescent Bay, the Camuy, and El Yunque, including La Mina Falls. It all depends if you're of the "sit-and-relax" school of vacationer, or the "run around and see things" school. :o)

What did you not like Dickey? You must not be the tropical kind of guy huh? I've been to Clearwater and Tampa, Florida the last 2 years and loved it. I figure this year I'll go a little more tropical and go further south.

Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic is really nice. Stayed at Sun Village Beach.

Dylan,
What did you not like about St.Thomas? I was trying to decide between the three, next to Jamaica and Barbados.

Key West just is too small. Not much to do.

San Juan was just a disappointment. They have fine women but again not a lot to do.

I went to both of those places on port calls so Im sure that makes a big difference, like not having a car.
