well im stupid

Postby bisbicos » Mon Nov 18, 2013 7:43 pm

I'm so mad. I just purchased $1,600 worth of airfare on my discover card. I did it through the shopdiscover website for an aditional 5% bringing my total to 10% cash back or $160 bucks for one purchase. Well I just found out discovers 5% online dosent cover airfare and the orbits 5% dosent cover standalone flights. This means I only earned .25% cash back or $3.36.

I hate myself right now!

Well if you were booking from orbitz then you could have still earned 5% cashback through shopdiscover as orbitz are one of the retailers there offering 5% cashback

To make you feel better, if you had switched over to the IT card, that .25% would have been a whole 1%.

haha.. nice one ...

I had the similar experience as the OP. I bought a plane ticket for 1200 last month with discover, turns out 5% is not for travel, even though its online :beat:
BofA Cash Rewards | CapitalOne QuickSilver | Discover More
Gold Delta AMEX | Citi DoubleCash | Citi Simplicity
Chase Freedom | Kohls Charge Card

This is part of the reason I don't even bother to determine what I "think" my rewards will be for using a card for a particular purchase anymore.

I know most people will sit there and take the time to try to calculate out to the PENNY which card will give them the most for any given purchase. Me I deal with enough details in my job, I don't want to spend 20 minutes trying to save 2 cents I'd rather leave that 2 cents on the table it's not as if it will take me to Vegas or even buy a stamp or a piece of gum these days anyway.

Personally I just pull out the card(s) of the creditor(s) I want to keep the best business relations with - they get my swipes. I look at the overall package such as have they looked out for me in terms of when I get screwed did they hold me down or did they try to help, CLIs, overall potential in terms of rewards, customer service, and do I see them as a "keeper".

Life is enough of a hassle without me sweating a penny here and a penny there.

And yes the fact I don't want to hang myself in my closet over 2 cents makes me nuts so what.
