I use the CSP for fast food restaurants and I keep the Cash + for restaurants and bookstores. 5% is the best you can get, even considering the bonuses that you can get through certain redemption options with CSP. I would have both, at least while you are getting the first year annual fee free with CSP. After that, you have a decision to make, as SevenFeet mentioned.

It's nerfed, but if you can use it, go for it.

Anyway for those of you with the Cash+:

How did you get it? Did you have to go into a branch? I"m thinking of calling a branch to apply... I have no U.S. Banks anywhere near me...

Is the website usable or is it really as bad as I've heard?

Is the customer service U.S. based or overseas? Is it hard to get a rep.?

I got mine when it was still offered online. I think if you call it is still possible to order it that way. There are no US Bank branches in Texas either. Closest is in Oklahoma or Arkansas. I rarely have only had to call CS once and it was in the US.
Wallet:

Discover IT: 5K (2010)
PenFed Plat Rewards Visa: 3K (2012) (Gas, Target)
USAA Plat MC: 7K (2010) (everyday expenses, places that do not take Amex or Discover)
US Bank Cash+: 7K (2012)
Target REDCard 3k (2013)

I've read you now have to go into a branch when I did it, you could apply online. So I'm not sure, you could Google it and see if you can find an online app but I have read you can't apply for it that way anymore.

I think they limit it so you have to be in their service area to get it if I'm not mistaken.

It's usable. It's not like it's horribly broken, it's just not fancy with the most modern interface like say Amex or Discover.

It's US based, and most of the time when I tried to reach them it took multiple attempts and I was on hold for quite a while longer than with other credit card companies. YMMV but that's my experience with them. Once you get someone, they do know what they are doing, but getting them in the first place was anything but quick for me.

Is the website's like Chase's? Chase's is pretty antiquated to be honest as well. They could really do with a re-vamp, they're such a huge damn company.

I'd say Chase's is better it doesn't look like some combination of HTML and Javascript and a bit of classic ASP hacked together by some intern over the summer like US Bank's site does.

Don't get me wrong though you really can do everything you want on the US Bank site just like you can on the Chase site.

I'm targeting this card for the new year.

I heard you get additional cash back benefits if you have a checking account with US Bank? They offer Gold and Platinum Checking. Is this true?

This was a victim of the nerfing, no more additional benefits for a banking relationship.

On other points: from the OP: yes, many Visa Sigs without AF, there are versions of Freedom and Amazon from Chase for example, Capital QuickSilver and lots of Citi cards.

The main US Bank site for me (others are getting an upgraded versiion) doesn't showing pending charges or payments, which is a real miss. Their mobile site does.

The growing trend these days seems to be cut the rewards, but offer sign up bonuses to entice people. Obviously even if they give you a couple of hundred for some spend in the first couple of months, over time that's still cheaper than higher rewards would be over time.

Of course those who churn cards for the bonus might make them regret that....
