VERY disappointed w UR mall!

Postby lexrj » Sun Oct 27, 2013 11:32 pm

Trying to book a flight using my points only to find out that their flight selection is pretty useless, most of the flights I want they don't have it. I also noticed that most of the flights they offer are the ones with longer duration for the price of the ones with shorter duration.
Think I'm going to get the Barclay Arrival and stop using the CSP, very disappointed!

You're trying to pay with your UR points? Please stop immediately. UR points are worth way more when transferred directly to an airline. Where are you trying to fly and in what airline?

Really? It's worth more than the extra 20% when booking?
Trying to fly to Copenhagen from San Diego, looking at SAS flights.

It can vary but you can easily compare for yourself. Look at flights using both options. In most cases points transfer is still the better deal.

SAS isn't a UR transfer partner. The options are: BA, Korean Air, Southwest, United & Virgin Atlantic.

However, SAS is partnered with United and you can book SAS flights -- at least, in part as domestic legs look like they will be on United -- with MileagePlus miles.

MileagePlus award flights start at 30,000 miles for economy saver and go up to 147,500 for first standard each way for the flights you're looking for. With the 20%, the equivalent flights on UR would have to be $375 and $1,843.75 each way, respectively.

All of my miles go to Southwest. I suppose I should look into United, but I don't like baggage fees that are asssociated with the other places.

So I've looked into transferring to United but the award booking would cost me 110K points which is a WHOLE lot more than if I was booking through Chase Mall.
Conclusion:
Ticket cost for the cheapest flight (different flights for each)
Kayak: $900 (best and cheapest flight with 1 stop and a total of 15hrs duration)
Chase Mall: $1040 or around 80K points (horrible flight with 2 stops and 30hrs duration)
United (award booking): 110K points, which if I'm doing the conversion correctly it would be the equivalent of $2200 ?

You're looking at United full price awards. If you select a "Saver" award, you'll need only 60k miles, as opposed to the 80k and terrible flights from Chase.

Limited is a relative term.

For example, from 1/9-2/28, there are only three days w/o saver availability. I don't know when lexrj is trying to fly, but it seems pretty open.

What month are you planning on flying, lexrj?

So basically if Southwest's website shows a flight for 5000 southwest points I could transfer 5000 points from my Sapphire Preferred to get the same flight? I csr a few months ago told me no since they do not have the same value.
