2013 SunTrust cash back credit card review

Postby FutureBillionaire » Fri Sep 27, 2013 5:52 pm

I received an invitation to apply for a Suntrust cash back card. It offers 2% on up to 6k in purchases at grocery stores and gas stations. There is a 10% bump if you deposit into an eligible Suntrust account. I'm going to put this on my radar for next year. It's solid.

2% or 2.2% isn't that much? Am I missing something here?
Or do you already max out your BCP at $6k and want something else to put another $6k on?

Bank of America Better Balance Rewards MC: $25/quarter bonus

Citi Forward Visa: 5% restaurants/fastfood, movie theaters, amazon.com
Discover It: 5% rotating
SallieMae MC: 5% Groceries, Gas, Amazon
US Bank Cash+ Visa Signature: 5% electronic stores, restaurants
Sock Drawered: Chase Sapphire, Chase Amazon[/size]

2.2% for another 6k is more than what I get on some other cards. It's good stuff.

There's also the Sallie Mae Mastercard through Barclays. It's 5% on groceries and gas, although the limits are small ($250 in purchases per month for each category). Also offers 5% on up to $750 in bookstores, and for no annual fee. Might be worth a look to supplement your BCP.

Don't they frown on having several accounts and high limits?

Lol, I have 27 open cards, three of them with Barclays. And last November they AA'ed me by closing my US Airways card for having too many new accounts/inquiries. But I guess they aren't holding grudges, cause they instantly approved me for all three cards which have been opened since that time. I kind of like pressing my luck with these companies.

I got the Sallie Mae Mastercard last month, the limit is only $3800 but thats more than enough to milk the 5% rewards. I was particularly looking for the grocery store 5% since I converted my BCP to BCE a while back. So far, so good.
