Applying for new account as secondary card holder: bonus?

Postby lunalessy » Sun Sep 08, 2013 12:14 pm

Hello again!

My husband and I want to apply (or product change) from Amex BCE to BCP. The Costco and grocery bills of late have convinced us that it is worth it to upgrade! Now for the question:

Husband is primary card holder and I have a card from his account. Can I apply for BCP, get a new account, and get the welcome bonus ($150 after $1000 spent in 3 months, as of time I write this), or does my card from his account keep me from getting the welcome bonus if I open a new account?

We don't mind asking for a product change but it seems silly to pass up the welcome bonus, if it is available.

Has anyone ever had any luck with getting a new account when already holding an AMEX card (but is not the primary card holder)?

Thanks in advance!!

The terms are always a good place to research answers for questions like this:

If you are identified as a current American Express® Cardmember, you may not be eligible for this welcome bonus offer. This offer is also not available to applicants who have had this product within the last 12 months or any other Consumer Blue Cash® Card account within the last 90 days.

Keep in mind that an AU is not a cardmember and by "had this product" they're referring to the cardmember, not the AU's.
