Discover CashBack theft spree?

Postby cc_is_cash » Mon Sep 02, 2013 8:19 pm

I was redeeming some Discover eCertificates for Land's End when I realized they weren't actually the usual eCards, but they were physical cards instead (useless for ongoing sale). I went back to the redemption page and noticed that eCerts were showing as "unavailable for selected amount." Well, you just can't get any for any amount right now.

A google search turned out this very disturbing thread on fatwallet.com: Discover Card Fraud (Cashback Theft). It seems like many people have had their CashBack stolen in the form of Land's End eCertificates. And now you can't get eCertificates for Land's End, but you can still get them for Old Navy and a bunch of other retailers. I suspect this is not a coincidence.

It remains very disturbing that such a thing can happen. It was probably an insider job, perhaps at Land's End, or a collusion between thugs at both Discover and Land's End.

Has anyone heard of this before?
