Travel card?

Postby lunalessy » Sun Sep 01, 2013 12:57 pm

Hey Everyone,

This is my first forum post! I have found a lot of helpful info here already, thanks! I do need a little advice though, and please point me to old threads if this question is already answered.

My husband and I have a BCE and a Citi Dividend Cash, and I have a Chase Freedom. We put everything on the BCE except for Restaurants which don't take AMEX (then CDC or CF). We are thinking about a new strategy where we put all restaurant and travel on a new card, maybe a travel card, that is Visa or MC.

What is everyone's favorite travel card? What I would really like is a card that includes travel insurance because I hate purchasing that extra when I go on international trips. Is there a card like that out there? CTYP says that it has trip cancellation, interruption coverage, is it any good? I liked the idea of the C1 Venture, but the comments about customer service scared me away. I thought the price erase feature is really neat though. No foreign transaction fees is not necessary. I really like to book vacations on Orbitz and get those big discounts for booking flight and hotel together, and I don't know if that is possible with UR or TY.

Any thoughts? We have excellent credit.

Thanks!!

Anytime you book through a third party like orbitz rather then direct (I love to do this, even orbitz knows cos you can't earn their bucks on vacation packages)

You do not get extra % for cashback in travel cards--so you're outta luck there. If there's a card that will let you get anything over 2% that isn't related to the site (like if orbitz has a cc) then i would love to know too.

However, there's a way to get extra $$ and it doesn't even have to do with cc.

Ebates--check em out. You just need a name and addy to give them so they can send you a check for your cashback.

Orbitz is often up to 10% you can earn. Last trip I got almost $30 back for a trip from top of one coast to the bottom of same said coast..altogether I spent about 500-600 and I used my credit card on orbitz so I got cashback from my cc too.

The way it works is you give credit to ebates for referring you to orbitz. Orbitz give them xx and they in turn give you x.

This is like how Pinterest makes $$ but instead of giving any back, they make their site free to use and unseemingly ad free.

Once you take the trip ebates will credit your account, they cut you a check every quarter.

So instead of 1-5% often you can earn more then that back with ebates :) great for those who only use debit cards too but is missing out on cashback since the banks revoked it after the 08 frank/dodd

Ebates, interesting I will check this out. Thanks, Whit. We decided to go with CSP. We will downgrade to CS if we don't like it after a year!
