Best credit card for college graduates in 2013?

Postby chris98891 » Sun Jul 21, 2013 10:56 am

So I have great credit and a great job. Just graduated. I shop at Costco and Bi-lo/Publix, and buy most of my gas from Costco.

I've been comparing the Amex BCE and BCP, as well as their Costco partner card. I'm trying to stick to Amex so I can use their cards at Costco where I'll accumulate rewards, but am open to other cards.

I currently also have one Visa through my bank and am an Authorized User on my parents Amex Blue card.

Since you shop at costco id either go for the TrueEarnings card or the BCE. Only downside i see to the true earnings is that you get your cash back annually as a "reward coupon"
(01/10) - Wells Fargo VISA Platinum
(05/10) - Techron Advantage
(10/12) - Amex BCE
(02/13) - Chase Freedom VISA
(09/13) - Discover It
(03/14) - Sallie Mae WMC
(09/15) - Citi Double Cash WEMC
(09/16) - US Bank Cash+ VISA Signature
(01/17) - Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature

I would get the BCE from Amex and the Freedom or Sapphire from Chase at the same time. Must make sure you are good on your utilization before applying as both of these companies hate anything above 10%.

Is it generally understood that BCP isn't worth the $75 over BCE for most people? Also, why the Freedom or Sapphire in addition? And I agree about the Costco rewards being a downside...you can cash them in at the store, but you still have to go to the store.
