2013 AeroMexico Visa Credit Card Reviews: 24,000 Bonus Miles

Postby SLOcurl » Fri Jul 19, 2013 4:36 pm

Hey fellas, totally new to the frequent flyer/points game. Most of my family lives in Puerto Vallarta because that's where we are from and yes I am a legal US citizen!! I'm 24 and fly down there usually like 2x per year and want to find a way to save on it. That got me into checking out US Bank's AeroMexico Visa.

1. Does anyone here have this credit card?

2. How good/bad are AeroMexico frequent flyer miles. Like how much are they worth each. Do you have blackout dates and all that. Even though I have flown them to/from Mexico a few times I am clueless about their mileage system.

3. What type of credit score requirements does it have. I know I am kind of young but my credit has been kept up. I have a loan thru Toyota financial that is always paid on time bec it gets docked from my checking automatically. Two credit cards with Bank of America and another with Wells Fargo because I switched banks. Since age 19 or 20 when I got the first, I think I have probably only had a couple late payments. No bad debts or any of that rubbish.

4. Explain the bonus of 24,000 miles please. Like I said, newbie here! I have the AeroMexico credit card application up on my screen right now and it lists 20,000 bonus miles after first purchase. Then the next line says 4,000 annual bonus miles. Does that mean when I have the card I get 24k total- 20k up front and 4k for my first year?

That depends on what's important to you.

The glass half full view is that you can fly out of a good number of US airports for flights to Mexico. Off the top of my head I know that NY, LA, Miami, Chicago, San Fran, Vegas and Houston are all serviced by Aeromexico.

The contrarian view is that Aeromexico miles are not worth much. When I have looked at flights the minimum needed for a roundtrip is 50,000 or higher. That's certainly better than Delta SkyMiles SkyPesos but it's nothing to get giddy about. Last year I chucked my Aeromexico credit card and solely stick with non-branded travel.

Hey I found out how the 24,000 miles works. You get the 20,000 to start and the other 4,000 come once per year after you pay your renewal fee.

Last year I chucked my Aeromexico credit card and solely stick with non-branded travel.

Please explain. Do you still get miles to spend on Aeromexico?

Something strange I noticed was that there is an Aeromexico Visa Signature and a platinum. The Visa Signature is the card with the 20,000 bonus miles, the platinum gives only 15,000. I'm confused because both cards sound the same to me.
