Cash Rewards vs BCE?

Postby DONx3 » Sun Jul 14, 2013 9:30 am

I go grocery shopping at meijer 9/10 and kroger 1/10, I gas up at speedway, and if I need to go shopping for clothes I usually shop at outlets. I only have credit cards that gain points and I have never owned a cash back credit card. So do you get 1% cash back for every other purchase and where does it get credited? Any other cards to consider let me know.

They give about the same rewards honestly. Amex seems very slow to credit you with rewards, where BofA was pretty quick about it. Yes they are 1% cards outside of those areas (gas, groceries, dept stores). With BofA you can do the usual gift card/statement credit thing (there are other choices I don't remember what) with Amex I think you also can do the statement credit thing.

BofA offers some fantastic 5%, 10% and even up to 15% deals that Amex does not on things like auto parts stores, starbucks, mcdonald's and a bunch of others.

Really either one will do the job.

There's really not that much difference in the end IMO.

Depends on the card and the terms.

For my BCP I accumulate rewards dollars. The rewards dollars have to be redeemed for products, services or statement credits. The latter can be redeemed only in certain dollar increments with $25 as a minimum.

For my PenFed Cash Rewards card the cash back is automatically credited every statement period.

Programs differ -- they're not all identical Read the fine print and make sure you understand no matter what card you're looking at.

The main site has recommendations that you should look through. Are groceries and gas your only priorities?

I just wanted a credit card to use for gas or groceries. My CSP card is my main card and will be used for 80% or so of my transactions.

BCE 3% on groceries and BofA Cash Rewards 3% on gas. No annual fees on either.

Is it true that all visa signature cards don't disclose credit limits to the bureaus? Not sure if you can call your credit card company to tell them to disclose it. Also, when you do a product change do you usually get the same credit limit and can you ask for an credit limit increase for that new card at the same time?

No. BofA Visa Signatures don't report the limit, there may be others but a lot of them do report a limit. With BofA as far as I know you could ask them to PC the card so it does report a limit.

You can probably always ASK for a limit increase - no guarantee of anything and it could be a hard pull. Just like a raise - you can always ask.

Between the Amex blue & Amex BCE which is a more prestigious card? Or are they practically at the same level, only difference one being a cash back card and the other a rewards card?

You are seriously worried which card has more "prestige"?

How would we even determine that?
