Do you get reward points for balance transfers anywhere?

Postby rockyrock » Mon May 13, 2013 5:55 am

Anyone ever seen points awarded for balance transfers? I would think not just because it would be too easy to abuse the heck out of it. Just curious.

Balance transfers are marked as a special transaction and never are granted points or rewards.
Cards:
American Express Platinum (NPSL)
Penfed Platinum Reward Visa ($28K)
Chase Freedom Visa ($25K)
Fidelity American Express ($20K)
American Express Blue Cash Preferred ($20K)
Bank of America Cash Rewards MasterCard ($20K)
Citi Thank You Preferred Visa ($9.5K)
Chase Sapphire Preferred ($7.5K)
US Bank Cash + Visa Signature ($7K)
Discover IT ($4K)

Right. I've always figured points were only awarded for actual purchases (ie. swipe transactions).
AMEX: PRG Gold, Business Simply Cash, Business Costco, BCE.
Chase: United MileagePlus Club, Sapphire Preferred, Amazon Rewards
Barclaycard Arrival World Mastercard
HSBC Cash or Fly World Mastercard
USAA World Mastercard, USAA Platinum Mastercard
Wells Fargo Business Platinum
USC Credit Union Mastercard

Sometimes there are few exceptions.
Like for ex..If you do a BT on the US Airways Premier world master card (up to max $5000) you would get up to 5k miles...

The Southwest credit cards offer this as well.

But there is a fee for the balance transfer, so the value you get from the points earned isn't worth it, unless you were going to pay a fee regardless.
