HHonors comparison

Postby C.K. » Wed Apr 24, 2013 6:14 pm

So I was looking into hotel cards. Since Hilton seems to be the only big one to offer no annual fee cards, it seemed worth looking into. I know the value of each point is really low, but I'd figure it'd be fun to at least discuss it. Again I'm only comparing the no annual fee versions.

Citi HHonors Visa Signature:

6 points per dollar at a Hilton owned hotel
3 points per dollar on gas, grocery and drugstores
2 points per dollar everywhere else
Automatic HHonors silver status. Can be upgraded to gold status for 1 year after 4 stays within the 1st 90 days
40,000 point bonus after $1,000 is spent within the 1st 4 months
Hilton HHonors.

HHonors AMEX:

7 points per dollar at a Hilton owned hotel
5 points per dollar at restaurants, grocery stores, and gas stations in the U.S.
3 points per dollar everywhere else
Automatic HHonor silver status. Can be upgraded to gold status for 1 year after $20,000 is spent in 1 year on that card
40,000 point bonus after $750 is spent in the 1st 3 months

So it looks like AMEX is better overall unless you want to try to get the gold status offer for the 1st 90 days on the Visa card. What do you guys think?

There are MUCH better options available. Even a 2% card would be better. I believe Hilton points were worth about a half cent each before the devaluation. I have no idea what it is now.

Does it give 1 free night every year?
