BofA Better Balance Rewards = free Netflix + Hulu year round

Postby nvtech » Sat Mar 30, 2013 5:52 pm

I actually did not intend to apply for this card and far by everything available in the market, this card is no game changer for anyone.

However, it made some difference for me and my wife.

I have a BOA card that has been idle for the last 8 yrs and since its being my 1st card, I just kept it open. ( I do have the BOA 1-2-3 card which I use occasionally) .Just gave a quick call and asked the customer service if they can convert my old Junkie "World Points" card to this "Better Balance Rewards" and it worked like a charm.

The catch for this rewards to work every month is this.

Make purchases of $25-$30 min every month and you should have a balance by end of the statement period. All you need to do is to make a payment which is more than the min payment due.

I talked to the BOA agent and I was told $15 would be the min + 1% of the remaining balance as a min due if you use the card more than $25.

I plan to bill both my Netflix and Hulu every month and some other minor charge to have a balance of $25 in total.
My annual cash back for a spending of $400 is $120 which is 30% and this would be repeating every year (Until BOA kills it)
I plan to do the same with my wife's card.

The churning amount is small but I felt I am giving some power to my useless cards over long time.

You'll get a HP when you do. Might as well just apply for it.

The monthly minimum you need to charge to get the bonus is one cent.

Somehow my original title of the post looks to be changed by the moderator I guess.

It would be much better as "BofA Better Balance Rewards = free Netflix or Hulu year round"

A little more update:

For the conversion from my lame "World Points" card to the "Better Balance Rewards" card, no Hard Pull or credit check was done.
Also, I was assured that this new card will carry the complete 8 years of history with the original date.

As expected, I got my card 2 days back and it does have the information " Member since '05'.

I have the BOA 1-2-3 cash rewards card too. I am one of those card holder from Charles Schwab Invest Visa which use to give me 2% on everything. After the demise, FIA converted my card to a BOA 1-2-3 card.

Honestly, I don't use even my BOA 1-2-3 card.

3% gas for 1-2-3, Instead I used Penfed Visa for 5% back.
2% Groceries , Instead I use Amex Blue for 6% back.
1% on everything, Instead I used Priceline Visa for 2% back.

If there is a right mix of cards for cash back rewards only, I see "Better Balance Rewards" much much better than the 1-2-3 card.

Make sure the AF is worth it, especially with the recent capping.

You only need to charge a penny monthly to max out the rewards on the Better Balance Rewards card.

If you charge more than that on the Cash Rewards card it makes sense to keep it as well as the Better Balance Rewards card.

If you're not using the Cash Rewards card at all, consider trading it for a Travel Rewards card if you travel outside the US.

I've been thinking of switching my cash rewards to the better balance rewards as well but I'm waiting to hit $25 to redeem on my cash rewards 1st (I'm just over halfway there). I'll do the switch by the end of June if things don't change. I'm also gonna ask for a CLI as well so they'll probably hit me with 2 HPs.
