Then, for a brief period, there was language about "qualifying" accounts, that each month, if you had one of those products, you would get 5/3/1 for that month. But then that went away, and the 3/2/1 for the card was moved to 1/1/14.

That's for the Signature of course. Then people have reported being told by CSRs:

1) Everyone with Plat Rewards will be moved to Sig version at some point
2) No, Plat Rewards users will stay with that card but get the 3/2/1 rewards. In Dec or in June (and probably other dates)
3) The Plat Rewards will go to ZERO rewards, encouraging users to switch.

No idea if any of those are true, but from the beginning of the Sig I couldn't see how the Plat Rewards could have better rewards than the flagship card, and I would expect changes to Cash Rewards too for the same reason.

I was getting good use out of this card. As a matter of fact, I have two of them. This card becomes garbage after the changes to the rewards structure and the nerfing of the points. I would use Chase and Discover for gas. I'm not sure what I would use for groceries. The card becomes less than 2% and not attractive if it goes to 321 with the current point valuations.

The lady I just talked to said everyone should have received a notice and an option to convert. I don't remember seeing one. She stated that folks are supposed to be able to keep their current structure.

did anyone ever get this sorted out ? I never received anything in the mail from them about the card changing points or moving to a 321 structure or being converted to the signature?

What is the next best card out there for gas going forward?

has a cap of 6,000, you mentioned that you spend between 2,000 to 2,500 so in 3 months you would be over the limit they, would only give you 1% back.
As far as gas stations goes Kroger isn't a stand alone so you wouldn't even get the 3% back. if you get gas at places like Hess, gulf ,citgo etc then this is a different situation. But not Krogers.
If your looking for a cash back card what do you think about the Bank of America cash rewards card 3% back on gas 2% on grocerys
1 everyplace else? i'm not sure if krogers would count when you get your gas this is something you would have to ask before applying.

Sorry but I have to disagree - you for sure want the BCP so that you can max out your rewards. In your case with that spending you can get max rewards and the card will pay for itself. Just be sure as mentioned once you hit the cap you use something else. But for the first 6k where else are you going to find a 6% return? I know of nothing out there that matches or beats that - if I did I'd want it.

I suspect that they aren't changing everyone over at once. I don't have that card but I have the Platinum Cash Rewards card. Some have received a noticed that they're getting dropped to 3% without qualifying product but the only thing happening to mine is that I'm losing the 0.25% on all else.

IIRC the qualifying product list is the same for both cards and a money market savings account is option that requires the least outlay. I'd suggest confirming this directly with PenFed though.

However, that doesn't address the point redemption changes for the Platinum Rewards.
