Usually "department stores" refers to places such as Sears, Macy's, Dillard's, JCPenny, etc.
Wallet:
AMEX BCP: 9K (2012) (every day expenses, gas, groceries, department stores)
AMEX Zync: NPSL (2011) (large expenses)
AMEX Costco: 4k (2013) (Costco, gas, and restaurants)
Discover IT: 5K (2010)
PenFed Plat Rewards Visa: 3K (2012) (Gas, Target)
USAA Plat MC: 7K (2010) (everyday expenses, places that do not take Amex or Discover)
US Bank Cash+: 7K (2012)
Target REDCard 3k (2013)

Bksuper wrote:Department Stores will be one of mine; due to lack of transport and low spending I haven't done GCs yet, but you can still get gift cards at department stores and get almost as much as the BCP at supermarkets, more if you include the once annual $25 bonus (not that I spend enough to get it) without the AF, and a quarterly cap of $2k is better than an annual cap of $6k, right? Ill pick electronic stores in advance when I know Im making a big ticket purchase from say Apple, the rest of the time I'll do book stores (which hopefully includes Amazon); although that might change to cell phones if the categories are the same when I'm done with school (doubtful). The categories are still better than the Freedom or More, you still get to pick them rather than be stuck with it rotating, and the cap is still higher than the Freedom or the BCP. Its still the best credit card by far. For me, its my highest limit card so all my big purchases that don't earn top tier rewards on my other cards have to go on it even at 1% back (I get 2% back on everything on my 1FB card but it has such a low limit).

Most departments stores I have looked at do not have a very good selection of gift cards, if any at all... Also, BCP isn't that great anymore with the 6k cap. $6000 at 6% is $360 -$75 AF = $285. 285/6000 = 4.75%

Cashback, you should PC to the penfed platinum rewards card. You will get more bang for your buck.

Well I can't say I'm surprised or didn't see it coming. The rumors had been out there for a while.

And boy did they ever nerf the hell out of it.

I have been using mine as my "go to" card for everything. That will now change.

And yes I realize they have the right to change their rewards program at any time as they so choose. I also have the right to choose to pull out other cards as well. And so this one is going to the sock drawer basically. It's a shame it's my highest limit card, but the rewards they are offering are now just mediocre.

BofA offers more as does my Associated Visa, heck even my FIA offers a straight 2%. And even my 2k Barclay's gives 2% on billpay so I guess that will be seeing some use now rather than the Cash +.

Again it's their perogative to do this, but I am going to switch most things off of this and it will become little used now. What a shame.

Seriously the way they are nerfing it, their Flex perks card could offer better rewards. Maybe I should see if I can switch to that.

And I wonder if that card is the next for nerfing! I use it for 5% gas, will use it for 3% for groceries once BCP cap is reached, and nothing else. Doesn't sound sustainable. Although I guess the Plat Cash Rewards has been around a while. Didn't they reduce the "other" there from 1% to 0.25%, but I would still think most people would use that only for gas.

They pulled TU for me last July when I applied for Freedom.

Wow. And the card hasn't even been out a full year yet.
AMEX: Blue Cash Preferred (6% on groceries, 3% gas & dept stores)
Capital One: Venture (2 points per $1, equivalent to 2%)
Chase: Freedom (rotating 5% categories), Disney Rewards (1 point per $1, Disney benefits)
US Bank: Cash+ (5% bookstores / 5% Electronic Stores)
