Freedom/US Bank+ 5% rotating

Postby Twisted Innovator » Thu Jan 10, 2013 5:30 pm

Been doing a lil of my own research and have a great idea to maximize the 5% on different categories, especially gas with these cards. Don't know if someone already came up with the idea on here, but here it goes. These two cards are perfect for offsetting!! The Chase Freedom is locked to 5% in certain categories each quarter, but with the US Bank+ card, you can choose your 5% each quarter. All you have to do is find out what's the going 5% for that quarter on the Freedom, then make sure you choose something else on the Bank+. With each quarter, you will always be getting 5% on a category you like. With the Bank+, you get to choose ANY two 5% and one 2% each quarter.

Chase Freedom
Q1 (Jan-March) Gas, Drugstores, Starbucks
Q2 (April-June) Restaurants and Movie Theaters
Q3 (July-September) Gas, Theme Parks, Kohls
Q4 (October-December) Amazon and Select Department stores

US Bank+ Card
*you can choose any combo all year round; (2) 5% and (1) 2%*

Then all you do is offset the cards. Bam, 5% all year round on anything with just two cards :)

This is common practice for most people dedicated to cash back. With the cards i have (see signature) i never get less than 4% cash back on any credit card transaction.

And you wouldn't be able to get 5% on everything with just those two cards.

You had the start of a great plan. It just takes a few more cards to maximize your cash back and get at least 4% cash back on all transactions like me.

Im so close, actually new here but seen yous posts around and thought your set up was pretty slick.. and it helped I already had discover and amex bcr, I just upgraded it and no joke got my amexbcp in the mail today :D . got my pen fed last week and waitin on us bank + card just for mainly billpay. they looking into upgradin my card to + as in literally yesterdays mail they automatically gave me their lower 1% cashback card they really dont like pushing out the + so hassled them on phone yesterday. giving them a month. is a card I want but dont need since im not a high roller Im like a college student! and my monthly expense are very low.
this card should secure 99% of my transactions 5% cash back. although with bpc $500 giftcard mod Im already 5% cb like 99% :ppp just want have space cuz their new grocery spending limit

Glad I could be of some help. If you get the Citi Dividend card and Freedom you can use the drug stores categories for $500 GC's. My local Walgreens has a ton of them. This will help offset the cap on BCP.

ya you post been very helpful.. thank you, arigatou, gracias :D

Actually I was thinking of switching from discover to freedom since discover really messed up this quarter with no gas.. but since I got penfed for gas which is my biggest monthyl expense, I dont think ill need to switch like I said im not a big spender im a college student and with BCP new limits I dont think ill pass their cap ill try this method for 3 months see how it works!! since other cards offset, and well with discover i can get/got gift cards at dept stores on last quarter :P im really hoping for that cash+ card for bill pay instead of usin giftcards on those utilities for an ample buffer zone. if i dont get + i might switch from discover for drugstore 5% thought i luv how Discover cashback connects to amazon. i do amazon shoppin here n there..

Yes, last week for both. For the drug store category. Unfortunately my local grocery stores have stopped carrying the $500 gift cards for now, so I will now have to buy them from drug stores. Hopefully sometime they will bring them back. I have reduced my monthly gift card need to about $1000 a month (used to be $2500), so that helps.
