Even though it offers 5% discount, the discount is applied before sales tax is calculated. So depending on you states sale tax you actually save more vs 6% Target GC from grocery store.

Plus Redcard gets you free shipping for Target online as well.

You are continuing to find ways to make it onto my Christmas list. That is excellent advice that would be heeded...if it weren't for the fact that I get fuel points from Kroger to get cost knocked off of my gas. 10 cents a gallon for every 1 hundred points. Gift cards get 2x and sometimes 4x their face value. I received 400 points for buying a 100 dollar best buy gift card that I'm going to use towards the purchase of the new Kindle Fire HD.

Keep in mind that with GC purchases, you don't get purchase/extended warranty protection from credit card. Something to keep in mind when buying electronics.

Also check out Cardpool and Plastic Jungle. When these two sites combined with Top Cash Back you can actually get buy some GC at very low price. For example JCP GC is usually 30% cheaper on these two sites.

And using a renewable bag at Target gets 10 cents discount per bag.

I wish my Fred Meyer (owned by Kroger) was classified as a grocery store. Instead Amex says it is "Merchandise & Supplies - Wholesale Stores."

Can't I just get around that by using the GC for part of the purchase and then using the credit card for the rest?

Almost all credit card company requires the entire amount to be paid on credit card to be eligible for purchase and extended warranty protection.

Yeah, I read that on the terms and conditions of the Citi Card. I'm pretty confident that I will be ok though.

You would have gotten more cash back if you used your Discover for the 5% gas rather than 3% Amex, unless that's not the More card.
