Ah gross... I was doing some more research in the Flex Perks program and I noticed that they do offer a 5k point signup bonus after spending only $250 in the first 90 days. They have plenty of partner gift cards and even a cash equivalent Visa gift card that can be redeemed at a full cent value per point so that bonus is good for a $50 cash equivalent gift card. But get this. Outside of this signup bonus you get one point for every $2 spent! Really not sure how I want to do this...

It is a tough choice. Since you took the hit anyway, it would be a shame to waste it. Since there is no fee you should be able to PC. Once you've built history, say in 6 months push for the upgrade.Might take some persuading but you've done that with Chase already.

Yeah, I mean I can't outright argue against a $50 signup bonus after only $250 spend. We'll see how it goes. By that time my higher limits will have been reported and established. It's going to take a substantial CLI which will undoubtedly result in another hard pull... Maybe I'll shoot for the CSP first and then Cash+ second because I don't want this stupid card to ruin my chances for that. Might even consider closing out my Amexes for it...

DON'T close your Amexs. Take it from me, they don't seem to look kindly on that, or at least they didn't when I did that. I really wish I had just left Zync open. Live and learn I guess! I could have used the CreditSecure as well as the account reporting 13 years on my report. In fact I should have left them ALL open, and just not used them and used them for aging. I knew when I closed them I should do that but I was too hacked off to listen to reason at the time.

So I would suggest not doing that. Unless you just don't want to pay the annual fee and are willing to risk them deciding THEY cancelled your cards for you and denying you in the future. You should be just fine getting the Cash + next year so long as your TU score is good.

Yeah, you're right because I'd really rather not sever those ties completely. I probably will do just that -- keep the Zync open, minimal AF, keep the relationship afloat. I just don't even spend enough money to justify $215 in annual fees ($95 green, $95 CSP, $25 Zync). Then I guess when I want to cash in on some travel rewards or something I'll open up a new standard MRP account and do it that way. Just the more and more I think about it the better it seems Chase is with its rewards, because the only way you can even get to 1% value with Amex MRPs is by redeeming for travel whereas with Chase 1% is bare minimum.

I hear you. It hurts plenty for the 60 dollar annual fee for my Escape card but we want a travel card.

It could have but I wanted the 2 miles per dollar on all purchases. Plus the 25,000 miles at 1,000 a month was nice too. I'm putting some reasonably heavy use on the card to build up those miles.

Online application down?

Postby andrewket » Mon Jul 23, 2012 11:54 am

I've tried twice in the past 20 minutes to apply. After completing the first page (name, SSN, income, etc..) it bombs out with a "we're having technical difficulties" page.

Anyone else tried today?
