Hello hematino, did you still get the "I am sorry, I am not able to..." message before you reached someone from underwriting services this morning?

I'm sorry about that. If I may ask, how many did you have?

I had a number of inquiries (recent) on TU when I applied. I think honestly that your overall profile is a lot more important than inquiries. But if you have some falling off it won't hurt to wait a couple of months and I can sure see doing that. It seems like with the cards you have that you would have a great chance of success especially with a history with them.

I called them up and was able to get transferred to underwriting where they told me it was the Cash + I got approved for. Limit is 12k. That's my highest ever.

Nice! Thats a really generous limit! Congrats man.

jeffysdad wrote:Since there's no sign-up bonus, apparently, for this card, there's no advantage to applying online. I phoned in my app. and specifically told them that if I was not approved for Cash+ that I did not want any other card, and the rep agreed. This might be a wise thing for others to do if they apply for the card.

Smart thinking, to be honest I wish I had thought of that too.

Yes. I called several times since my app and every time, including the call that led me to underwriting services, I got that message. After getting the message it asked me to hold and automatically transferred.

American, Barclays fed me that same load of caca about the inquiries when I applied for the Ring. My recon got flat out denied (even though I give the CSR credit for doing so in a pleasant and polite manner).

Regarding inquiries, I had 3 total on Experian (all in the last 3 months). US Bank's pull added a fourth. 5 each on Equifax and TransUnion. Probably two thirds of my accounts are newer though, I have 8 accounts that I opened just this year. Just trying to build my ideal wallet I guess, haha.

You can certainly call them when you get the card and tell them you want to make the Cash + your main card as it offers good enough rewards for that and see if they can upgrade you. I don't feel your inquiries are excessive (no more than mine honestly) and I don't have 8 new accounts this year but I have a few. Hopefully you can get it!

One more thing I wanted to add about this card, and a general observation. I've noticed on some other forums, members being just FANATICAL to the death about not applying for anything in fear of the dreaded I word (inquiry) which apparently to them is worse than finding out you have HIV, getting fired from your job and getting a letter in the mail from the IRS you are being audited all at the same time. It's silliness and insanity to the point that I just laugh, if someone takes one hard pull in 6 months and uses that to accomplish 3 tasks which I think is good bang for the buck, they are screaming how this person is a credit criminal and the Navy Seals will have to take you out before you destroy credit everywhere!!!! I mean come on guys, I understand watcing it, but REALLY?????????

Ok off soapbox now and onto a practical subject about this card, and my app for it.
I had 3 Amex cards which I recently closed. They all backdated to 1999 giving me 13 years each on those accounts. I confess that I made it a point to apply for this card BEFORE those Amex cards dropped off my reports. Once that happens my oldest ACTIVE card is from 12/2011. Yep that makes my profile a lot thinner in terms of active cards, but it was only "thick" because of the backdating anyway, and I have some great cards to grow with now. To be honest I don't know if US Bank would have approved me for what they did without those Amexs on my reports. That's why I took the leap while they were still reporting. (I wasn't planning to).

So, I took a hard pull, but I feel it was good value, though I'm sure some of the more fanatical would argue how terrible that is to ever take an inquiry for anything, though darned if I've been able to figure out how you get credit without doing that.

But I did want to clarify that. I would say if you see a window like that, use the window to your benefit. In the end only you can decide what is best for you.

Now totally unrelated, but I have been thinking I would like to get an Amex Zync. I do not plan to make much use of the card, but it would suit me for 3 reasons - one backdating it would be nice to have a card reporting back to 1999 giving me 13 years history (fake but it would do that and that's what counts); second I like the CreditSecure program and could charge that monthly to the Zync card; and third ti would be nice to have an Amex, just in case and it would look good on my credit profile. Admittedly I care nothing for Amex, but then again it's not about that, they don't care anything for me either other than how much they can make off me so it's not about beign a love fest. That's what I'm thinking here. At least I'm honest about it!

Any particular reason you're shooting for the Zync specifically? Ease of approval? Only reason I ask is if it's only backdating you're looking for, a no annual fee revolver might make more sense. But then again... the Zync just looks so damn cool it's hard to resist its allure XD
