Well...I tried my best to recon for the cash+ upgrade as my cash rewards arrived today. First I talked to underwriting and she said they didn't have enough information from the report to qualify me for the cash+ however she said I could try calling customer service and speaking with them. So I called and the CSR said she would look into it and put me on hold. She came back and said she spoke with her supervisor and that based on information from the report I did not qualify and after 6 months of use and good payments I could request an upgrade. I asked what information on the report disqualified me so that I could better understand and improve for the future and she said she didn't know that was what the supervisor told her...So I asked if I could talk to someone that could possibly provide the information and she offered to transfer me to the supervisor so I gladly accepted. I gave my case and asked what the negative information on the report was and he said they don't have access to the report...hmmm...I asked if there was anyone that I could provide more information to or if there was someone that had access that I could speak with and he suggested I request my own report and review it and provided examples of things that would reflect poorly...(I wasn't asking for a lesson...asking so I could explain any areas that need improvement). He also said that even if I could talk to someone the account is locked in as cash rewards and they can't make any changes in less than 6 months (I haven't activated the account...) He said that if for some reason I could provide more information to someone that results in the cash+ I would have to reapply and there would be another hard pull...at what point in the process will it NOT be locked??

Anyway...the recon failed and I'll be sticking with cash rewards for 6 months and then requesting the upgrade. What a shame, I was hoping to take advantage of the rewards before they decide to change them...Oh well, that's the curse of having a young history. I'm definitely looking forward to the day that my aaoc is high enough to not matter.

The smarter thing is to just pullback on marketing and be more selective about issuing new cards. After all, some of US Bank's competitors might be forced to pull up their benefits to compete.

I agree with what you are saying but if they are really taking a bath on it, they aren't in business to lose money. So I can't blame them for doing what they need to do in order to remain solvent. 5% on bill pay is huge, and to be quite honest, it's really the ONLY pull as far as the rewards go. If they got rid of that, the card would be average at best in terms of rewards. But again, I don't want to see them lose money or get rid of it. If they can keep that 5% bill pay, well then I don't really care if they cut everything else to 1%. That way they can still make money and offer a card that gives us a reason to use it too. But my guess is, that's what everyone is using it for and that's where they are losing money, so that will probably get cut to 2% or something.

I don't think they're losing money on the card or we'd know it already; just that the number of people applying suggest that they're not at the optimal point on the marginal profit curve. We'll see. I really hope that they let us who have them keep our cards without major changes.

Bill pay is awesome and probably the best draw. I like some of the other 5% categories and would use them as well. It's still a good card without bill pay. Bill pay makes it the best card overall on the market. I need to check to see if they have a rewards mall.

No rewards mall that I've been able to find. However, it works nicely with upromise and topcashback, so I'm not too concerned about that.

Well, I'm more with membersince, that it's bill pay uncapped that makes it special. But I guess other categories can also give cause for concern, such as home improvement when stores like Lowe's sell a wide range of gift cards for other things. Bill Pay is probably still a bigger issue though.

So sort of worse case, they cap 5% at $75 per quarter like other cards, I guess they would still got some interest if they still allowed you to choose your 5%, because then people would know that they would be able use the categories. As compared to say, a rotator card having theme parks as a choice, which is useless/uninteresting to some.

But that would be a big let down!

Does anyone know if 5% CB on bill pay applies to rent? My property uses this webservice called RentPayment. They can set up recurring autopay. Wondering if anyone has experience with recurring online rent payment charged to their Cash+.
