I buy about $2.5k worth of $500 MC gift cards a month with my BCP. The best way I have found to use them when their balance is low is to make partial payments online to your bills. I can do this with my USAA Insurance and Time Warner Cable.

I applied to get the Cash+ card about a week ago. Hopefully I get it and I will probably open the platinum checking account in January when the BCP gets capped.

I had a checking account with them, but they ticked me off once. Their atm was robbed and my account was hacked. The took all of my spending money. US Bank took forever to credit my money or give me a provisional credit. Other banks give you a provisional credit until they locate it. I got mad an moved all my money from there to other banks. They weren't very empathetic when the closed it, either.

It is a lot. about $120 to $180 a month in cash back. I use them everywhere. Gas, groceries, bills, restaurants, online shopping, etc. Anything and everything I can pay with a credit card I use GC's for.

I mis read your question the first time. Here's my spending. $500 groceries, $350 gas, $100 cable, $150 propane(in the winter), $1000 allowance(my wife and I each get a card), and $500 for miscellaneous expenses. Anything that is not a necessity we pay for with our "allowance"(clothes, eating out, entertainment, etc,). That is a normal month. Obviously I buy more GC's if I'm making a major purchase or like right now with Xmas spending coming up.

I like that strategy with the allowance. I may use that for my clothing budget. I exceed my clothing budget most months, smh. I may also use this strategy to purchase gift cards to buy anything that I can't get 5% cash back on through shopdisover, us bank cash+, or BCP.

I highly recommend that you get a Discover IT card. The ShopDiscover site is the best rewards mall, imo.

Thanks. I'll have to look into that. Also, another advantage of using GC's is security. If someone gets ahold of my GC #'s then I'm out the balance of the gift card, but that's better than getting your credit card info stolen. Also the MC and Visa gift cards have fraud protection just like a normal card would so you could recoupe your money. I use them for those annoying times that you have to sign up for something and it's a recurring charge. That way when it's time for them to charge it again there is nothing there!

I earned $51.38 in Cash back on my statement this month. I'm not sure how anyone can say that this isn't the best rewards card out there. If it isn't the best, it's in the top 3.
