Thank you!

jeffysdad wrote:Wow. That's quite a list. I had no idea there were so many categories. Perhaps Discover's IT card could churn up excitement by offering 10% back on all purchases from "Freezer and Locker Meat Provisioners."

haha

My understanding is you have to reselect categories every quarter, but the same are offered every quarter and you can make the same selection quarter after quarter. I'm using mine for utilities, restaurants and drug stores and plan to do so throughout the year.

The utilities category really only "works" if you can keep it the same through the year; who wants to re-register for autopay their payment cards with their billers twice a year.

Try not using auto pay at all XD
I sure dont. cause then I'd forget what gets paid automatically and what I need to do

I did not get a chance to read all the post but there is a hidden gem on this card if you do not mind having a checking account with US Bank.

If you open a Gold Checking Package you get the following:
- 25% monthly bonus on all rewards earned for net purchases (purchases minus credits and returns) with a U.S. Bank Cash+™ Visa Signature® or FlexPerks® Visa® Credit Card.

To make the Gold Checking Free you need to do (1) of the following:
Average account balance of $2,500 or more, OR
Combined monthly direct deposits totaling $500 or more, OR
Automatic payments to a U.S. Bank personal loan, line or credit card, OR
Automatic monthly transfers to a U.S. Bancorp investment account

I just happen to have an account with them from when I lived in Denver so I just reactivated my direct deposit to get more than $500 a month.

Little update-

I called after about a month of having the Cash Rewards card with the 6500 limit and asked to be changed to the Cash+. The csr changed the card without any other questions and told me it would be mailed out.

I received it with no problems :D

I actually have my mortgage with US Bank which makes me eligible for the Platinum account. Very nice. But, this creates a disincentive to re-fi again. I have a lot of math to do to figure out when the re-fi would outweigh the benefits of the Platinum account and bonuses.

Grocery/Gift Cards: AMEX BCP (6%)
Cell & Restaurants: US Bank Cash + (5%)

I was looking at the checking account packages too. The Platinum checking offers a 50% monthly bonus. Does anyone know how the $25 bonus for redemptions over $100 works? If I had a $300 dollar balance could i do 3 separate $100 redemptions and receive $75? If that's how it works I could get some serious cash back.

I would average $150 cash back per month. Plus 50% bonus brings it to $225. That's $2700 per year and if the $25 bonus redemptions works how i said above it would bring it to $3375 a year.

I did an online chat with US Bank. The representative said you could redeem your cash back in as many $100 redemptions as you want and get the $25 bonus for each one.

Also, the platinum checking does indeed give you a 50% monthly bonus on your cash back. There is an $18 monthly fee if you don't carry a total balance of $25,000 in your checking, savings, and CC. But if you get earn more than $36 cash back each month it'd be worth it even with the fee.

I've redeemed exactly $100 multiple times within a few seconds of each other. You do get the $25 per $100 gift card. Why anyone would redeem >$100 in one transaction is beyond me, but I'm sure they get someone this way.

The gift cards do take forever to arrive. My first one took 8 weeks, if memory serves. Fyi - I've found a good way to insure that you don't forget to use the card, or end up in situations where you're saying "charge $2.23 on here, and the rest on here..." is to use the $25 gift card to buy an Amazon gift card, and then immediately redeem it to your amazon account. Amazon will hold the credit on your amazon account and use it the next time you buy something. Gift card issuers are counting on what they call breakage - unused cards. They slowly get their money back in the monthly service fees after the card is >1 year old. As soon as the gift card arrives in the mail I put it towards Amazon. No chance of misplacing or forgetting.

I have applied for the US Bank Cash + card for my wife on Oct 20th..Just called Credit card application status and looks like it has been approved. Need to call for getting more information on what card they have approved..keeping fingers crossed.

Few folks in the forum talked about doing an online chat. How can I do that?...Can someone take me to that location on their website.

A quick update:

I called the US Bank customer service and they have approved our Cash+ card with an 8k credit line. We also applied for a Joint account for Gold Checking.

Highlights about wife's credit.

5 yrs of history.
Credit Karma score of 755.
3 credit cards..
(Amex Blue Cash 2k, Chase slate 5k and BOA 1-2-3 rewards 5k )...Has balance of 1k on the credit card.
No recent inquiry in the last 12 months.

I guess opening a joint checking account with credit card might have some luck on the approval.

I found the chat while i was looking at the US Bank packages on the right hand side. I think they only have chat open during business hours (8-5) but im not positive.

I buy and use gift cards all the time (about 2.5K a month) right now with my BCP (sad to see it get capped). The easiest way I have found to completely use them is to make partial payments to a bill. I use the GC's until they are less than $20 then just use it to make a payment on my insurance online. I have found you can do this with Time Warner Cable as well.
