Need to revive this thread. I applied today and was approved for $9000.
:) this is my first credit card over a $2500 cl also my first signature card. Did tons of trolling on this site to see which card would benefit me and I felt that in my situation this one was best.

Good question cause I have a capital 1 card for $500 (hilarious i know)
I think the best thing to do if your agaisnt closing it is call the 1800 on the back of your card and ask if they can do any special promotion, I think with US bank if you wanted the limit raised you'd most certainly have a credit hit. So asking if they have a 0% offer or something might work.

There isn't a list per say as to what retailers using what MCC. However, there is a list of all possible MCC,

Wow. That's quite a list. I had no idea there were so many categories. Perhaps Discover's IT card could churn up excitement by offering 10% back on all purchases from "Freezer and Locker Meat Provisioners."
American Express: Blue Cash Preferred (groceries, 6%; gas, department store, 3%); Gold Delta SkyMiles (Delta Air Lines, 2 miles/dollar, free checked bag).
US Bank: Cash+ (utilities, phone, internet, restaurant, 5%; drugstores, 2%).
FIA Card Services: Fidelity Amex (everything, 2%); Fidelity Visa (everything, 1.5%).
Chase: Freedom (rotating, 5%); Amazon (Amazon.com, 3%); PriorityClub (IHG hotels, 5 points/dollar); Sapphire (not in use).

*All cards are registered with PriorityClub IDine program for 8 points/dollar at participating restaurants.

That sounds like something Discover would do. Don't give them any ideas.

I understand this a new card so I'm sure what's it reputation, thinking on getting mainly for utilities (att, electric and time warner) and restaurants.

Can I keep the same categories forever or do I have to rotate every quarter? What do you guys think?

I've had the card for 2-3 mos. now. My understanding is you have to reselect categories every quarter, but the same are offered every quarter and you can make the same selection quarter after quarter. I'm using mine for utilities, restaurants and drug stores and plan to do so throughout the year.

The utilities category really only "works" if you can keep it the same through the year; who wants to re-register for autopay their payment cards with their billers twice a year.
