My first experience with this card did not go very well. I received the card last week and went online to pick my categories. I selected drug stores (2%), Airlines (5%), and Restaurants (5%). The website says it can take several days before the selections become active, and to return to the website to check.
This morning I went to check and it shows Drug Stores, Airlines, and ... bill pay. I called CS and the first rep looked and said that she saw drug stores, airlines, and 2nd category not selected. I thought, ok, clearly we have an error here - I picked one thing, the website is showing another, and the CS rep is showing yet a third. Unfortunately she couldn't do anything about it - said it was a new product, they're still learning the ins/outs, and suggested I talk to a supervisor.
Supervisor looked at it, and the story changed slightly. He said he was seeing the same thing as the website- drug stores, airlines, and bill pay. We went back and forth a bit, but the net result was that he too couldn't change it and had to forward a trouble case to a different office. However he basically told me that they won't be able to fix it either, and that I should just wait until the next quarter
. Both CS representatives were very friendly, but they didn't resolve my issue. This sounds more like a restriction with US Bank's systems, not their lack of motivation. I will hear back from the other office by mail in 10 days.
The kicker is that I'm going on a vacation next week where I will be eating out every day. This was one of my motivations to get the card now, and select airlines and restaurants. The drugstore option I really don't care about, as I have other 2% on everything cards.
Not the best experience for a brand new customer to US Bank. I have no choice but to use one of my other cards during this trip.
