Well I can't say I'm all that impressed with this card so far.

Case in point - less than an hour ago I went to Experian online and ordered a report. I used this card, which currently has a zero balance (because I'll paid in full as I go as always) and a 12000 limit and guess what? DECLINED for 14.95!

Apparently using your card online to order your credit report sets off a FRAUD alert so they blocked the card and declined the charge!!!!

Seriously WTF! What good is this card if you can't trust it and have to put up with this. Like crooks are just looking to steal your CC # so they can go to Experian and order a report.

These guys look like a bunch of bozos to me so far, I'm going to call them at lunch and if I don't like what I hear, I will close this thing down. I can't have a card where I gotta worry about ordering a 5 dollar lunch at Taco Bell and them declining it and making me look like a jackass!

If you are thinking of this card, keep my experience with it in mind. I'm finding out some of these creditors are not worth your time of day to be honest. Life is too short for hassles like this.

I love this site. I am seriously considering leaving this card alone now to avoid the hassle. I'm interested to see what happens with everyone.

I almost can't believe it, but it's probably due to Experian being in CA. I mean like people don't make online orders or something? That is the only charge I attempted on it today (and will be the only one you can believe) so it's not like I had a previous charge in my own state then one in CA or something that should set that off.

It's really ridiculous. I will call them and listen to what they say but if I don't like it, bye bye US Bank. I don't need the hassle. I used my Discover card just fine to order the report. I need cards I can count on.

UPDATE:

I called when I went to lunch, tried to talk with a rep. Got the message "due to unusually high call volume the current wait time is over 8 minutes". I held for 14 minutes and no answer and finally gave up so I could get lunch before I ran out of time. After lunch I tried again, and that time it simply said "We are sorry but at this time we cannot take your call. Please try again in a few hours" and it disconnected me.

The card is currently in the back of my wallet where it will stay until I get an answer (if I ever can get one) that satisfies me.

Sterling customer service, I gotta say. Even Crap One is better than this.

jeffysdad wrote:Hey MS99. I'm sorry they're giving you grief. To my surprise, my entire registration process went very smoothly. They did give me one pointless robocall, but otherwise it's all been good. Is it possible the trouble you're having is because they're swamped with new applicants/card holders? That's not an excuse, of course, but it may help explain.

I'm reserving judgment until I see how accurate they are on rewards, etc. However, so far it's been good and I'm hoping to use this card for a long time or until something better comes along.

What is your credit score, if I may ask?

Well, as I may have suspected, the trip to US Bank was also pointless. They just called the credit card line asked the same questions I did and got the same answers. And no one was manually able to bypass the computer and upgrade. Every person I spoke with said that they have no idea why I was denied. And the guy I spoke with at the bank said that my score & annual income was ABOVE what is normally approved.

He told me to use my card for a few months and apply for an upgrade. I really don't want to be hassled, but since my score already took the hit I feel like I have nothing (but a few rewards dollars) to lose. He also said that trying to upgrade doesn't make a mark on your credit report so I could apply every month if I wanted to.

I wish I didn't start the process, but I feel obligated to try to finish it.
AMEX: Blue Cash Preferred (6% on groceries, 3% gas & dept stores)
Capital One: Venture (2 points per $1, equivalent to 2%)
Chase: Freedom (rotating 5% categories), Disney Rewards (1 point per $1, Disney benefits)
US Bank: Cash+ (5% bookstores / 5% Electronic Stores)

I tried calling again after work. Held for 20 minutes, finally a human answers, then I'm disconnected in a hail of random beeps.

I try immediately calling back, get the message that they are unable to answer my call and please try again in a few hours. Click.

I'm not kidding when I say Capital One is FAR superior to US Bank, and that's saying a LOT.

If I can't get ahold of this bank at some time in the near future (which looks possible) I'll just sock drawer this and wait for them to close it.

I've never seen anything like this (and hope I never do again). These guys take the art of buffoonery to a whole new level.

I have a card through US Bank and haven't had this problem. I think you are blacklisted there too, 99.

I'm glad you haven't. Hope you never do.

I'm not blacklisted there, unlike Amex. My own bank Associated uses Elan for their cards, it's the same thing the statements look identical. I've never had problems with either Associated or Discover.

But honestly I'm THIS close to closing ALL of them and not looking back I'm so tired of the nonsense these bailout companies give us. If they wanna make money just go to Congress and whine for some more welfare on our dime I'm sure they'll get it.
