I had miles on Continental that I wasn't going to use so I moved them over to my Amtrak Guest Rewards account and from there converted most of them to CVS gift cards. However, I had 5,000 Guest Rewards points left over and the lowest redemption level for gift cards is 6,000. Instead of writing the 5,000 points ($50) off, I opened a Chase Amtrak Guest Rewards MasterCard (no annual fee), which grants 12,000 points after first purchase. So soon I will have 17,000 Guest rewards points redeemable for $150 in gift cards (Going with Gap/Banana Republic this time) with 1,000 points ($10) left on the table.
