free student credit cards

Postby 507toplay » Sat Nov 29, 2008 2:46 pm

I would like to know what are the best student credit cards out there? The only thing on my credit record is my phone bill and other than that i have never used credit so I know I won't qualify for a regular card. What I want to know are what are the best free student credit cards that have rewards that are still decent.

All the student cards I have seen give real crappy rewards or there is an annual fee. That is total BS just because I'm a student doesn't mean I don't deserve rewards and crappy terms. I'm still spending money and making them money right? Then I deserve that card that has no annual fee and gives me rewards too.

What are the best student credit cards with cash back and are free that I would qualify for?

The Best No Annual Fee Student Credit Cards With Rewards

Free student credit cards with bad credit or no credit history will be hard to come by in this economy. Also it will be tough to find student credit cards with instant approval right now. Most normal credit cards have phased out instant approval for now due to the economy. But with both of types, you should receive your new card 7 to 10 days after applying, or a letter within that same time frame stating why you were not approved.

However if you have good credit, or at least no bad credit history, then finding free student credit cards should be easy. However as you said, finding them with generous rewards will be more difficult. Many of the student cards on the market do not offer the best cash back. Usually it is not more than 1%.

The student credit card with rewards that I currently recommend is:

Discover card for students - 5% cashback on categories which rotate quarterly.

Please note that to be completely transparent I would like to mention that CreditCardForum does advertise Discover cards so we therefore have a material connection to the company. You can click on them to read our reviews. Also the reviews contain the regular (non-student) versions too.

Keep in mind that after a short amount of time establishing a good credit history with your student credit card, you most likely will be qualified to move up to a regular credit card with good rewards and a higher credit limit.

Good luck,

Student credit cards are actually an excellent legal loophole I don't think most of us realize the benefits of. What I mean is that a younger person who would normally not have a credit score that would qualify them for a Discover card, has a special "in" that allows them to qualify for the student version with the same rewards, if they are a student.

Before a college student decides to apply for a student credit card, they should know the basics of credits and how it works. You can apply for the first time at your convenience, when You are ready. :)

I sense entitlement from 507toplay. Enough with the I want a good rewards card with good rates because.... oh wait thats right you are a higher risk and just like everyone before you and everyone after you will be assessed as such. Maybe get a card without rewards to build credit then with your excellent responsibility and on time payments you can get that great card. Sorry no free lunches.
