What's the largest purchase (& most cash back) you made on a card?

Postby SteelReign » Fri Sep 16, 2011 7:35 am

What the most cash back you ever got on a single purchase and which card did you use?

I think the highest I've ever gotten was $4.40 from paying for a set of tires that cost $440.00. I was using my Capital One Student Rewards card, giving 1% back.

I wonder if you could put a car purchase on a rewards card and get over $100.00 cash back on a single purchase...?

What about you?

I got $125.00 back from a single purchase. I had to purchase a new engine for one of my customers delivery trucks to the tune of $10,000.00.I used my Amex Blue Cash, 1.25% of the purchase. Would like to hear what others have got.

I just got $159.90 yesterday from a cruise I went on a few weeks ago. Paid with my Discover card. The fare was $3,198 so that's 5%.

I've got to ask, how'd you get such a large reward with Discover? Their 5% categories always have some low caps ($300-$800), which really cuts down on cash back.

Was your purchase through the ShopDiscover portal?

Thanks in advance for the info!

Yes, the purchase was through the Discover portal. It was purchased through a travel agency which Discover recognizes for 5% cash back on the fare.

I saw this and had to boast.... Just went to Jamaica last month. I linked my Amex card to my facebook account on the Amex page and signed up for their link-like-love promo. Specifically the 20% travelocity offer. Cost was $3,443.94 for the trip. Got 20% true cash back from Amex to the account for $688.78 as a single transaction! But it gets better... After I saw the 20% bonus, I called Travelocity and got them to match Apple Vacations lower price for a refund of $309.94 - Total money back = $998.72.
Oh. And don't forget the 3,444 bonus points.

Largest transaction AFAIK has been $8900, routinely $6000-8000. Funny thing is, they randomly decline purchases for very low amounts....guess they want me to spend more haha. From what I can tell, the card gets declined more often when there are a lot of pending transactions, so over a weekend when things take longer to post I could have 30 pendings and that seems to be a problem for them.

2%, small transactions, and particularly multiple small transactions in a short period, are flags for potential cc fraud, but you probably already knew that. The bank's monitoring system should eventually adjust to your spending patterns.

ATJ, that F'book travel reward is amazing. Congrats.

I think my largest single transaction was probably 8-10 years ago, about $7,000 for stereo equipment. I don't remember the card or what, if any, reward I got. I sure do hope I got something, though.

FIA Card Services: Fidelity Amex (everything, 2%); Fidelity Visa (everything, 1.5%).
Chase: Freedom (rotating, 5%); Amazon (Amazon.com, 3%); PriorityClub (IHG hotels, 5 points/dollar); Sapphire (not in use).

*All cards are registered with PriorityClub IDine program for 8 points/dollar at participating restaurants.
