Home Improvement Credit Card Rewards?

Postby thoughtforum » Thu Jul 14, 2011 1:32 am

I have noticed a handful of credit cards offer home improvement rewards or cash back these days and given the amount of money you spend in a purchase (buying an appliance, getting supplies for a home remodeling project and what not) I would suspect this suspect this category may be even more lucrative than drugstores and other obscure places where few Americans spend thousands annually like they might at a place like Home Depot or Lowe's if they are a homeowner.

Tell me if there are any choices here I should add on to my list of possibilities.

  • Chase Freedom with its 5% on up to $1,500 on home improvement for one quarter per year.
  • Discover It with 5% on up to ____? for one quarter per year.
  • Home Depot card with no rewards
  • Lowes card but there are none in my area and for that reason I am not considering it.
Am I missing out on any other home improvement credit card offers with rewards?

If I were you I would pick the third card. it's a store charge card meaning you can only use it in the store. the store gets to keep the cash, you might get some real good coupons. But only if your going to use the card at least 3 times a month every month.

I like the Discover card, you usually get gift card increments of 25 for this particular category 50 for restaurants and department stores. so as long as you can redeem, you can get home depot gift cards. Now with the Home depot store charge card you can probably get points of $100.00 because you are using their card.

I'm not a big fan of store cards but if you are into Home depot I would certainly recommend their card. Discover for all other aspects like clothes shopping, department stores and restaurants.

your list looks very nice.
