The only times credit card rewards have caused me to spend more is when there is a bonus I am trying to qualify for. Like with the Amex Gold PR you get 30k extra points for spending 30k annually. When the 12 month mark approached I did ramp up my spending a little to get the bonus since that was worth over $300. The best benefit though was my spending qualified me for Platinum which I am a proud holder of.
Primary Card: Amex Platinum (business version but used for personal, hoping to qualify for Centurion within 12 months)
Other Cards: BofA Cash Rewards Visa Signature (don't use b/c poor rewards), KeyBank Platinum (don't use for same reason), Amazon Visa (only use for Amazon)

I think that I spend more, but that is because some of my cards are newer. I refuse to pay interest and pay my balances off every month, so I am now seeing how my bank account is impacted. I'm going to reel in the spending by eating out less and cutting down on my shopping.
