Bank Shopping Portals

Postby Stros05 » Fri Aug 25, 2017 11:04 am

How frequently do you use your bank's shopping portal? What type of purchases do you make through it? I know the service is available from my credit card issuer, but I usually do not use it. I was wondering if I should start using it more often when I am buying things online.

I rarely use the banks' portals. I frequently use airline/hotel portals. Most of my online shopping is:

a. On Amazon, where there are very few portals and they only work for a small, changing selection of items.

b. Stuff for which I want easy price rewinds, purchase protection, and/or an extended warranty. That means Citi or Amex, and those issuers (AFAIK) discontinued their portals. I've heard Amex did, and I can't find any trace of Citi's.

With airline and hotel portals, I can use the card I want. I'll usually go with the most rewarding portal out of: BA, AA, United, or Marriott.

I'm also in the habit of ordering some stuff online (the morning of or night before I actually need it) and selecting in-store pickup. It only takes a few minutes of work, I can get what I want without worrying about a location running out of stock, and I can get a few extra miles.
