5X points on Apple with IHG

Postby kcm7 » Thu Aug 10, 2017 3:34 pm

I just got what may be a targeted offer of 5 IHG points per dollar on Apple.com until Aug. 23 (4 pts per dollar after that). Doesn't appear to require use of the IHG card, you just need to be signed into IHG Rewards Club and click through.

I'd be way more excited about this had I not just bought my new iPhone three weeks ago!
Cards:

-Capital One Quicksilver
-Barclaycard Arrival (no AF)
- US Bank (no rewards)
-IHG

It looks to me like a one-partner shopping portal. If that's the case, earning 5x IHG points would mean not being able to use other shopping portals.

Other portals for Apple include:
+5% Discover Deals (with Discover's card)
3x Avios from BA (plus whatever a CC gives)
+2x Chase URs (with a UR card)
+2x Barclaycard Arrival points (I've used other cards and gotten points, but haven't tried it for at least a year)

So 5x IHG may be the best option among your cards and travel partners, but if you look into other cards and travel currencies, it's nothing amazing.
Warranties and sketchy merchants: Schwab Platinum
Price rewind: Costco
Travel insurance: Prestige, CSP
Perks: IHG, Hyatt
Rewards/Offers: Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE
Taxes/Misc: SPG

Limited value, might close: Arrival

Might add: First Tech, proper business card

Good point. The only other card I have with a portal is the Arrival, though. And I am trying to farm IHG points right now (2 destination weddings in my near future and I love to book IHG airport hotels for the night before departure). It's just too bad I have no reason to shop at Apple in the immediate future. That darn iphone would have gotten me like 3k points.

So are pancake machines a standard HIX thing now? They've sent out a lot of emails about them.

Not all hotels seem to have the concept down, though. I think it was in Flagstaff that they had the exit blocked. So it could make pancakes, just not make them accessible.
