Best card for regular, large purchases

Postby roat17 » Sat Apr 08, 2017 5:55 pm

Hello =)

I'm about to start paying $3,400 for rent each month and I'm shopping for the best credit card. I'm mostly interested in cash back, so I'm trying to see what people recommend. The catch is there's a $40 fee to use a credit card, so I'm taking that into account.

Thanks for your time!

$40/$3,440 = 1.16%. Fortunately, that's a pretty low fee and there are many ways to come out ahead.

There are many cards that give 2% cash back with no strings attached. There are also cards that can give more if you have a banking relationship with the issuer like:
-Minimum balances on checking/savings/retirement/investments
-Direct deposit
-Debit card use

Are you eligible for USAA? They have a 2.5% cash card that's available in some states.
Warranties and sketchy merchants: Schwab Platinum
Price rewind: Costco
Travel insurance: Prestige, CSP
Perks: IHG, Hyatt
Rewards/Offers: Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE
Taxes/Misc: SPG

Limited value, might close: Arrival

Might add: First Tech, proper business card

The Citi Double Cash card would get you 2% back.
