MR/UR/TY: Hold or transfer?

Postby CarefulBuilder14 » Tue Sep 06, 2016 11:08 pm

With transferable points, there are a few options:

1: Transfer points shortly after they post
2: Wait for some transfer promotion (for MRs at least)
3. Transfer shortly before booking

#1 offers the most protection to heavy-duty bonus hunters and MSers (who face an increased risk of shutdowns).
#2 can potentially be the most lucrative for people who are confident they'll use the points well.
#3 is the least likely to lead to wasted points (assuming the points arrive in time).

So far, I've followed #3. What about others?

If I don't renew my CSP in January 2017, there might be a bit of a dilemma. I could:
1. Transfer the remaining points to United and/or Hyatt
2. Keep them with Freedom in anticipation of getting a CSR in June 2017
Warranties and sketchy merchants: Schwab Platinum
Price rewind: Costco
Travel insurance: Prestige, CSP
Perks: IHG, Hyatt
Rewards/Offers: Discover, Freedom, ED, BCE
Taxes/Misc: SPG

Limited value, might close: Arrival

Might add: First Tech, proper business card

maybe you mentioned it elsewhere, but why wait a year from now for your CSR?

Over 5/24 and haven't been by a branch to check for a (apparently reliable) in-person prequal.

Currently opted out of offers, actually, so it would likely take a while for me to potentially become prequalified.

Surprisingly, I was in a branch today and heard a Banker talking about it and talking about churning - pretty surprised since they usually don't know much about anything.
Amex - BCP, Platinum, Business Gold
BoA - BankAmericard Cash Rewards
Chase - Freedom, CSP, RC, Ink Plus
